Hello my Darlings,
I’m putting my paid subscriptions on pause for a moment due to work ramping up, and my soggy soggy sleepless brain from having a one year old.
I’ll pop it back on when I’m fully formed again (never?) but in the meantime, here are a few hits from the week.
I spoke with the wonderful Sarah Beth Morgan on her Motion Graphics podcast about being an artist and a mum.
Alexa Chung
I’m finding raw nostalgia is my main balm at the moment and this Alexa Chung Burberry campaign and subsequent article really soothed my soul.
It sent me down a rabbit hole of Alexa Chung summer looks and can we please go everywhere with ballet slippers slung over our shoulders? They’d be very good for holding grapes.
Summer Reading
I’ve been enjoying:
Terrace Story by Hilary Leichter
On the Calculation of Volume (Book I) by Solvej Balle
The Haunted Wood: A History of Childhood Reading by Sam Leith
Witch
A BBC podcast on the history of Witches in the UK. In one episode they talk to a doctor who has a cat called Placebo. Delightful!
Dusky Elves and Snorri Sturluson
I’m not sure how I ended up on this wikipedia page yesterday - I imagine because of the above witch podcast - but it led to the discovery of the phrase ‘Dusky Elves’ and a person called Snorri Sturluson, a poet from Iceland, born in 1179. I subsequently spent a large majority of yesterday repeating the name to myself as I roamed around the house. It’s a very good name.
A delightful episode of Your Dead to Me on on the man who designed every wash bag in Selfridges. Apparently Williams Morris loved living with big piles of friends and when he asked one couple if they would move into his stately home, they turned him down and he wrote in his diary:
“I cried. I’ve gotten over it now.”
The Tiny Chef Show
Congratulations on an blabbsolutely magnificent run, and a huge shout out for going out with a devastating bang with this video. If you like the show, you can learn more about supporting them here.
My favourite instagram account at the moment which shares paintings of landscapes and gardens by various artists. Drooling over this piece by Magali Cazo.
Lovely to catch up with all of you. In some personal news, we have ants.
See you soon!*
*(not you ants).
it's so nice seeing the kind of art that inspires you! and I've gotta' check that witch podcast out.
Omg, so excited for the podcast! Gonna listen to it now! :) the watercolour is beautiful 😍
