Last week we talked about the aliens and weather, and this week, we’re moving into a cold front:
The Yetis
I’ll tell you.
Baby Yetis are called….
Boarded by Tom Herpich
Yums are:
Born during the Yeti Confetti holiday
Boarded by Tom Herpich
Yetis are:
Impossibly Soft
Yetis love:
Shaking Hands
Rolling in Laundry
Playing catch with objects that aren’t heavy enough to throw
Yetis Keep:
Their emotions in their fur, and brush them out with yeti combs, which they store in in the catacombs.
Yeti Tell:
Stories of the yetis they love during the Sherbet Scoop. Everyone is invited to throw a scoop of sherbet ice cream into the ice fire and talk about the yeti of the hour.
The King tells a story about Bassoon and their shared heartbreak:
Boarded by Jesse Balmer
Which includes some of my favourite Summer Camp lines:
We hardly knew each other, and we still don’t.
and
We talked about life, death, the effervescence of new love, while every star’s flittering light reminded us that you can still be beautiful when you’re alone.
And one of my most coveted mugs:
Susie also told a tale from her very long past involving sweet Bassoon:
Boarded by Jesse Balmer
Yetis can:
Camouflage themselves
Yetis Will:
Do gymnastics when a storm is coming. The better the gymnastics, the closer the storm. The rating system ranges from one one thousand to ten one thousand and it’s very much dependent on your personal preference / level of judgement about a yetis gymnastical abilities.

Yetis Speak:
In musical instruments - saxophone, flute, tuba and so on, and each yeti is part of an instrument family - brass, woodwind, percussion etc. I highly encourage revisiting this substack post on the dynamics of an orchestra, but if you are in a rush and only have time to read about the dyanamics of yetis, here is the headline:
Behind the Scenes
Saxophone Come Home was the first ever episode we wrote and boarded of Summer Camp and reflected the kind of storytelling we were hoping to do for every episode - deeply gentle cozy fantasy. Because it was our first episode it was also the playground for figuring out the art style - this was one of the first images of Summer Camp, created by Sandra Lee, our art director.
We wanted each faction of characters in Summer Camp to evoke a different feeling, using existing properties as reference for the art style and storytelling. With Puddle and the King, we looked to Gremlins and Care Bears, and with the Yetis we looked to The Snowman:
And the voices of the adults in Charlie Brown:
We created arcs for each of the factions on the show, including the Yeti Confetti five parter. One of the best things about creating each arc was getting to make the character specific title sequences and title cards. The title sequence was boarded by our character designer and background artist Thomas Wellman:
Matt Forsythe did beautiful illustrations for the title cards
and Thomas Wellman, our lead character designer did so many gorgeous iterations of the yetis including :
Lucy is (spoiler alert)…
Boarded by Ryan Pequin
Part Yeti.
And there are a few easter eggs in the lead up to this reveal in the show. Once when we visit Lucy’s room in Susie’s Fantastical Scavenger Hunt:
Which was very much inspired by Eloise at the Plaza:
In her bookshelf we see a nod to her yeti interests with the book Famous Storms:
And Lucy’s yeti bookclub at the episode The Library:
So if we are collecting them all, here are the campers magical identities that we have covered in the posts so far:
Hedgehog is a Witch-wolf
Oscar is a Glowworm
Lucy is a Yeti
Alexa is a Giant
Pepper is a Cloud
And to continue our compendium of Summer Camp Categories
Yetis
Saxophone Come Home

Susie’s Fantastical Scavenger Hunt
The Library
Don’t Tell Lucy
The Yum Whisperer
The Sherbet Scoop

Where’s the Confetti
Thank you so much for joining me on this journey! See you next week for the beginning of the world.
Wow - I totally forgot about The Snowman. Going to have to revisit this one soon!
I always love seeing the storyboards for the show
