I am a big fan of ‘Slow Motion Multitasking’ which in broad strokes is: “when we have several projects in progress at the same time, and we move from one to the other and back again as the mood takes us or the situation demands” — Tim Harford. I find this process incredibly useful when working on my own projects as it helps my brain feel less stagnant and I think ultimately creates more interesting and dense stories (my favourite kind).
I've been considering that kind of multitasking when writing a book. If I have multiple story concepts, it's probably helpful to develop at least two or three, for the purpose of continuing to make progress with something. It should keep a continuous flow of fresh ideas, and help to stay motivated. In theory it works well, but for me it's hard to make it a habit.
Thank you, Julia!! What you are describing is exactly why I love the entire process of making animation. Been feeling a bit untethered myself, so I’m looking forward to this.
Well put and well named.
